Number of Fledglings Visible: 0

Weather Conditions: 67 F Sunny and blue skies

Other Activity: So the people at the house mentioned yesterday about the nestling being harassed by crows and it had not been seen in a few days. Today I went down there and the female was on the #1 marsh perch and the dad was on the #1 platform. No baby in sight. I have been hearing a Red tailed hawk close by and thinking there is a nest nearby....could that be the culprit. Unfortunately this nest has failed...but not without giving it its all.

Observation Method: car

Name: Robyn Lafata

Nest Name:
ESS-08 - Greenbelt Cox Reservation Platform #2

Adult Osprey Activity Observed:
Other (specify below)

Location, Date & Time of Observation:
2023-08-03
7:30 AM to 8:00 AM
at: Essex

Number of Adults Visible: 2

Number of Nestlings Visible: 0

Number of Fledglings Visible: 1

Weather Conditions: sunny, 64F blue skies

Other Activity: The nestling has fledged. She is flying close by the nest with both parents watching. Male on perch and female on the nest. She made a few attempts to land on the dad who was on the perch but that did not work well. Eventually flew up to the nest with mom. When I returned from the loop I saw mom eating and the fledgling laying in the nest...Growing strong is tiring!

Observation Method: foot

General Comments: So happy this fledgling made it! Lots of obstacles this year!

Name: Shirley Singleton

Nest Name:
ESS-05 - Singleton Salt Marsh Platform

Other (specify below)

2023-08-03
8:15 AM to 8:30 AM
at: Essex

Number of Adults Visible:

Number of Nestlings Visible: 1

Number of Fledglings Visible: 1

Weather Conditions: Sunny, 67 degrees

Other Activity: The first born is doing very well flying and starting to accompany Bob on fishing trips. However, the second born refuses to take the “last step” and fly. Both parents and older sibling have tried everything to motivate him. Pauline flies circles around the nest and then lands on the marsh perch with her back to the nestling. They have occasionally blocked him from eating on the nest with the family.

Observation Method: Back deck
