Other Activity: We watched a young (we assume) osprey practicing hunting. It dived straight down and came up with a large fish. It got a few feet out of the water and couldn't keep rising and sank back down into the water, flapping and holding its head above the surface. It tried a couple more times to get out of the water with the fish, but in the end it splashed its way to shore with no fish. We heard it plaintively peeping while it shook itself off. Then it took off.

Other Activity: I have checked the nest multiple times since yesterday (Sunday) morning, some from the recording. It looks as though Atty left the nest around 830am yesterday and maybe hasn't returned (?). At least I haven't seen him back on it with multiple check-ins over that timeframe. Hope someone else had/has a sighting.

General Comments: Atty is on 27.8.2023 at 8:19 a.m. departed. He hasn't returned since then. What is unusual is that, unlike usual, he flew off in the other direction, namely in the direction of the camera. I really hope he's fine. :-(

Other Activity: At first, I looked at the nest and saw no osprey, but a seagull sitting there. I thought they might have all gone already (but is it early?). Then I saw one bird circling nearby. As he/she got higher in the air, I noticed a 2nd, then a 3rd, soaring really high up. I watched them for a while, just riding the thermals. I suspect one is the juvenile, but I couldn't tell which one. This made me really happy to see!
Observation Method: On foot, using binoculars, from Independence park.
