For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Weather Conditions: 77° / Mostly sunny / Winds SW 10mph - gusts to 19mph

Other Activity: Upon arrival, two on perch. Another Osprey came in and disrupted both male and female. The pair chased off interloper, which took a bit of time. They both returned. Female returned to perch on top of nest. Male perched on lower perch. Female left nest seemingly to hunt, but came back within a minute and a half or so. Landed on nest. And the male proceeded to briefly copulate. Male returned to the lower perch.

Observation Method: On foot through a phragmites pathway.

General Comments: It was very interesting to watch the comings and goings during this observation of this platform!

Other Activity: Female’s head popped up and down in the nest over the course of the observation. Male was perched on metal platform - just below the nest

Observation Method: On foot from parking lot. Walked towards the rear of the lot to see the male perched behind the light stanchion and hanging out on horizontal platform.

General Comments: Very excited to see that this pair was present for this observation. There were no signs of them the week before!

Other Activity: one bird on post feeding itself, then flew to nest, moved some sticks around, then just remained perched; second bird flew in and perched on marsh grasses, also feeding itself visitor said that earlier he had seen a bird in the nest incubating - we observed for 30 minutes, but never could see that
