For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: Osprey perched in tree on island north of platform. Close examination via scope revealed second Osprey on nest [more material than last time] sitting very low in ‘incubation pose. Male descended from tree perch to fly over river close to nest. Then landed on bundle of reeds floating down river and stayed with “raft’ for about4-5 minutes as it drifted slowly down river. Then flew off. Female behaviour could be ‘playing incubation’ ?

General Comments: Olivia was incubating & Ollie was on the nest with her. Another tried to join them & Ollie went after it. As they were flying around 2 more osprey appeared & they all circled for a while.

Other Activity: The female is continuing to sit deep in the nest on Platform 2 and the male is perched on platform 3. The male defends the nest territory frequently every day as other ospreys approach the nest. Yesterday another pair of osprey were particularly persistent in approaching the nest. The resident male was kept busy as the interlopers took turns approaching the nest, while the resident female stayed on the nest.
