Weather Conditions: Warm (~75), light breeze, sunny
Other Activity: At first I observed one bird on the nest, at the edge, looking in - I believe I saw one, maybe 2 nestlings. That bird began calling, and the other one was near the shore, doing what looked like "showing how hovering is done" for the kids. There was also another osprey flying with it...Possibly a fledgling from last year? At some point, the one on the nest came off the nest and the other one replaced it. The 3rd bird flew off. A little while later, there was a lot of calling and all of a sudden a juvenile bald eagle was getting too close to the nest and the one in the sky was trying to fight it off... I saw both birds with talons out and flying close to each other (it is amazing to see the size difference side by side!), then the other bird came off the nest to help fight it away... finally they got the eagle down the river and both flew back to the nest. The male tried to mate with the female, but she shooed him off... finally they settled down at the edge of the nest and I saw a little head pop up for a moment. There's at least one in there! :)
Observation Method: On foot from Independence Park.
