Name: Lisa Manzi

Nest Name:
ESS-02 - Brophy Salt Marsh Platform

Adult Osprey Activity Observed:
Osprey Perched

Location, Date & Time of Observation:
2024-07-18
8:45 AM to 9:15 AM
at: Essex

Number of Adults Visible: 2

Number of Nestlings Visible: 1

Number of Fledglings Visible: 2

Weather Conditions: 75F, mostly cloudy, WNW 8 MPH

Other Activity: We could hear all the calling from the nest from way across the water. As we got closer we could see the adult female and all 3 young in the nest with 1 up on the edge flapping. This one took off shortly afterwards and did a loop and returned to the nest with lots of calling going on. As we started to leave for Dean, a second young osprey stood and started flapping. The male, I assume, flew over the nest calling, and the second took off and appeared to follow the male and circled over Choate Island with lots of calling going on. We did not see it return.

General Comments: I'm going to revise my observation from earlier in the week. I think there is only one nestling. What I saw the other day was probably the 2 adults and one nestling. I do not think it has fledged yet, or if so I don't think it has flown far.
