For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: First sighting of the nestling! Female and nestling perched on edge of nest.
Observation Method: Park and pull out area of Route 107. Walk to edge of river to view with scope.
General Comments: Even with the heat, I was able to get a very good look at a young nestling. Seemingly more advanced than I would have assumed as I hadn’t had any observations of this nestling during prior observations.

Other Activity: Only able to observe two of the prior reported three nestlings. Female on edge of nest. Male perched out on radio tower.

Other Activity: First sighting of a nestling! Female on nest with a very young chick! Mail perched off to the north east.
Observation Method: Walked through scrubby woods to edge of marsh to view with scope.
General Comments: From earlier observations, I had assumed that this was a failed platform. It was great to see a little head, pop-up!

Other Activity: Lots of wing activities from the nestlings. Female pursed on cable between main light extension and floodlight.
Observation Method: Pulled through middle of construction site. Site prep occurring way off to the left of the parking area. Used binocular shrub observation.
General Comments: So far, no issues with access to this location!

Other Activity: Appear to be a female self feeding. Perched on the stanchion at the platform itself. The crossbar has fallen off and now only two very long screws seem to be sticking out of the stanchion.
Observation Method: Parked in route 107 pull off area walk to edge of river and observed with scope.
General Comments: Perhaps DCR/GB can coordinate installing a new horizontal section to the perch on the platform itself. Certainly it didn't look too conducive to self feeding.
