For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: I hadn't seen all 4 osprey at the same time for a while so I thought maybe Olivia had headed south. Today Ollie & Olivia were on a tree just upstream from the nest, maybe saying goodbye. The 2 fledglings were on the nest.

Weather Conditions: 65 degrees, partly cloudy, calm

Other Activity: one or two of the fledglings continue to use the platforms. I hear a lot of begging for food by the perched fledglings, but have not recently seen any feeding by a parent.

Observation Method: from bedroom window

General Comments: I see quite a few osprey hunting at the sand bars at the northern end of Plum Island. The most frequent catch is small flounders.

Other Activity: An adult was on the perch near the nest and the 2 large nestlings were on the nest, one doing quite a bit of wing flapping, but no flight.

General Comments: As we have been away in recent days, I can’t say exactly when the other members of this family group were last seen, but at this point, it appears that the last, and likely the slowest to gain weight, offspring associated with this nest is the bird that remains. It is calling quite consistently for almost all the time it is present.
