For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: The pair have been working together like a well oiled machine. The male is busy chasing off intruders, bringing fish in, and carrying in fresh grass to the nest. The female has been turning the eggs and occasionally flying to a marsh perch to eat a fish while the male takes his nest turn.

Observation Method: From the back deck

General Comments: The male brings in a fish, shows it to her, then flies to the marsh perch to eat the head. He then brings her the rest of the fish to eat.

Observation Method: On foot

General Comments: Due to the angle and distance to the nest we cannot determine if the nest has eggs. Upon arrival we found one osprey moving about in the nest. Within a minute a second osprey arrived and perched itself on the side of the nest. The first osprey in the nest than took off and left the nest. The second osprey perched on the side of the nest than went into the nest and was moving about.

General Comments: Olivia is still incubating and Ollie was perched on his favorite branch just outside our window. He spends a lot of time there. It's business as usual all day with Ollie bringing fish to Olivia and occasionally relieving her on the nest. They don't seem to be bothered by the occasional truck traffic and activity on the lot around their pole.

Other Activity: Two pairs of intruding ospreys circled the nest several times and the local male osprey spent his time trying to get above them and circling to chase them away while the female on the nest continuously made warning cries.

Observation Method: from back yard

General Comments: a single female osprey has been coming by regularly and circled low over the nest. The nesting female makes warning cries and the male chases the intruding female away. 2020-05-17

Other Activity: one bird down in nest; second bird on post perch, then flew off; a little later a bird flew in from the west with a fish, past the platform, perched on a piling and began feeding self - don't know if it was from this platform or not

General Comments: very large item (fabric? roofing material?) hanging off right side of platform; also, two nice rafts of Brant in water
