Annie and Squam have 2 very healthy looking, and similar sized, chicks in the nest. They are 11 days and 9 days old respectively. Clearly the third egg, visible behind the chicks in the attached photo, is not viable and will not hatch. I will try to remove it soon.
For the next 10-14 days, the chicks will grow significantly but will remain with their downy feathers. Then their flight feathers will start to appear, they will lose the grey color and become darker and browner - looking more like the full-grown Osprey they will become.
As for names - I have a few ideas but please email me any suggestions. We will try to pick names early next week - right around their 2 week birthdays!
Other news - yet another new nest was discovered recently, on a channel marker in Salem, by John and Joanne Lund. Great find! That certainly brings the 2026 total to a solid 100 pairs and it may end up even higher. Big increase this year over 2025!
