The camera recorded a good photo this morning of all three eggs intact in the nest (photo attached). It is a better photo than 2 days ago and allays any concerns eggs were damaged by the banded male intruder last weekend.
It has now been 14 days since the first egg was laid on 4/30, and Annie and Squam have settled into their incubation routine. Squam is definitely doing his share of incubating; I am tempted to say he is doing more this year than I remember, but that is a anecdotal observation. There are truly a complimentary pair and let's all keep our fingers crossed that the next 4-5 weeks will be uneventful for them. I still anticipate the eggs hatching in the June 8-10 time frame - right before Greenbelt's Art in the Barn art show at the Cox Reservation in Essex.
I did a quick tally yesterday of active Osprey nests in the region so far in 2025, and I came up with 87. That is lower than the 90 pairs from 2024 but there are 5-6 nests that are inactive now that were active in 2024 and I still think some of those will end up with Osprey on them. I believe some birds have not settled on nests yet.
