Leadership Announcement

Dave Rimmer to Retire as Director of Stewardship, Will Continue to Lead Osprey Program
After nearly 25 years of exceptional leadership, Dave Rimmer will retire as Greenbelt’s Director of Stewardship on September 1. While we’ll certainly miss him in this role, we’re happy to share that Dave will continue to lead Greenbelt’s highly regarded Osprey Program.
Dave has been a cornerstone of the Greenbelt community since 2001, guiding our land stewardship efforts with a thoughtful, balanced approach that supports both public access and the protection of natural resources. His deep expertise, steady hand, and unwavering commitment to Greenbelt’s mission have helped shape and expand our work in countless ways — from day-to-day property management to long-term stewardship planning. Dave’s legacy is visible across the diverse landscapes we care for and in the many strong relationships he’s built throughout the region.
As Director of Stewardship, Dave has played a leading role in many of Greenbelt’s most significant conservation and property enhancement initiatives over the past two decades. These include the protection and public openings of some of our largest and most iconic properties, such as Donovan Reservation (Hamilton/Essex) and Vineyard Hill Reservation (Hamilton/Topsfield). He also launched Greenbelt’s comprehensive conservation restriction monitoring program and has overseen numerous property improvement projects across the county.
Dave was also instrumental in the expansion of Greenbelt’s headquarters at Cox Reservation in 2007 and led the construction of the stewardship barn three years prior. In 2010, he founded Greenbelt’s successful and much-loved Osprey Program, which continues to thrive today.
We began planning for this significant leadership transition nearly a year ago, when we promoted Abby Hardy-Moss to a new position as Vice President of Stewardship, Planning, and Technology. Over the past year, the team has worked closely to manage staffing and workflow, and to imagine the next phase of stewardship here at Greenbelt.
With Dave’s retirement, we’re also pleased to announce that Mike Carbone has been named Greenbelt’s new Director of Stewardship Field Operations. A dedicated member of the stewardship team for over 12 years, Mike brings extensive experience to this role in both property management and conservation restriction monitoring.
Please join us n thanking Dave for all he has done for Greenbelt, wishing him well as he steps into a new chapter, and congratulating Mike on his new role.
