If you watched this webcam in the early season of 2025, you will recall that an intruder male Osprey (banded on its right leg) arrived at the nest and courted Annie - all before Squam returned. Eventually Squam returned and he drove the intruding male away.
Well today another intruding male has appeared (photo) - this time with a band on his left leg, so clearly a different Osprey than 2025. For an hour or so this afternoon, Annie and the new banded male were both on the nest but almost the entire time she kept her back to him - a very non-welcoming posture.
It will be interesting top see how this plays out. Let's hope Squam is on his way and order will be resumed, but I hate to make assumptions. Last year the intruding male even started bringing in nesting materials and trying to establish himself as Annie's new mate. We will observe closely in the coming days.
