It has been a quiet last few days on the webcam. Annie continues to show up intermittently - the last 2 days for periods of time on the side perch. Yesterday she was there in the afternoon eating a fish. No sign of a second Osprey yet. I reviewed last year's data, and Squam did not arrive until April 10. So we are left to wait - he is Mr. Reliable and he will return!
Around the region, reports of Osprey activity are coming in slowly but surely from Salisbury to East Boston. The first 1-2 weeks of April is typically when most of the breeding Osprey return.
Meanwhile I have been busy repairing platforms which in some cases has involved removing portions of huge nests that have built up over time and were starting to compromise the structural integrity of the platform itself. I have also been installing several new platforms as well as replacing 2 that “disappeared” over the winter, which I suspect was the result of large ice flows knocking them over and carrying them away. The photo with this post is of volunteers who helped me install a replacement platform on March 30.
