On this last day of July, as you can see from the photo, the nest is unoccupied and both Sunny and Stormy have fledged. That is exciting news for Annie and Squam, who have produced 1-3 fledglings every year since 2019 and now a total of 18 fledglings. These two are literally model adult Osprey - they seem to do everything right every year. remarkable.
It will be interesting to see the next few weeks unfold. How long will Annie stay around? Usually not that long post-fledging. What about Squam, who we expect to stay longer? But how long - through August? And Sunny and Stormy? They have a lot to learn between now and migration, especially the ability to hunt independently. I suspect they will be on and off the nest intermittently during August. Squam is still delivering their meals to the nest but a keen observed may see either Sunny or Stormy arrive at the nest with a live fish - an sure indication they are successfully hunting on their own.
Enjoy these final weeks watching as the season winds down. It has been exciting, fun and ultimately successful!
