This November, Greenbelt’s Stewardship team completed a series of property enhancements at Dodge Farm in Wenham, including the addition of a new 5-foot-wide crushed-stone trail and a designated accessible parking space. These improvements make the former tree nursery more welcoming for visitors using wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility devices. Teak benches located throughout the property also offer convenient places for all to rest and take in the scenery.

“We are always looking for ways to improve access to our properties,” says Dave McKinnon, Land and Trails Manager, who oversaw these projects. “In this case, we were expanding an existing infrastructure of level, gently graded trails that are perfect for all ages and abilities.” Dodge Farm, he adds, is also home to the Hamilton-Wenham Community Garden, which offers small plots to more than 30 local gardeners each year. Additional accessibility enhancements to the shared gardening space are planned for next fall.
