Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine Monument

As you may have heard, the Trump administration has ordered a “review” of our national monuments. In short, the executive order is an attempt to undermine one of the nation’s most important conservation tools.

Trump’s executive order puts the fate of our treasured parks and monuments at risk. He has made it clear that he wants to scale back or eliminate national monuments, taking land out of public hands to give to private corporations like fossil fuel companies.

This action will impact our monuments in our region: Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine Monument, off the coast of Cape Cod, and Katahdin Woods and Waters in Maine.

The American public and Massachusetts residents overwhelming support our national monuments and no president has ever attempted to revoke a predecessor’s monument designation, until now.

We knew you would be alarmed by this attempt to seize public lands, so Greenbelt has joined with environmental groups across New England to stand up for our public land. We are supporting the Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund’s campaign to raise the voices of Massachusetts residents in support of our monuments.

Will you take action with us to protect our public lands?

The Department of the Interior recently released the names of the monuments under review and announced a formal public comment period. Now is the time to show Interior Secretary Zinke that Massachusetts residents want our lands to remain protected.

Tell the Trump Administration that you want the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts, Katahdin, and all national monuments to be protected for future generations. Click here to take action now!

Thank you for defending our public lands.
