Greenbelt is looking for volunteers to be monitors in our Osprey Watch program. Greenbelt is interested in documenting the behavior of Ospreys in Essex County and we need your help! There were 40 active Osprey nests from East Boston to Salisbury in 2016. We are looking for volunteers to “adopt a nest” by visiting the nest at least once a week, recording observations and taking photographs. The “Watch” season will begin in early April and go through August. Volunteers will need to submit an online data sheet once a week and can email us great photos as well.

Requirements for the Program:

  • Be able to visit the nest for at least 15 minutes once a week and fill out Greenbelt's online report.
  • Know what an Osprey looks like.
  • Have a pair of binoculars or spotting scope.

If this Program seems like a good fit for you, please submit an application below and you will be assigned to a geographically appropriate nest or if you already have a nest in mind you would like to watch please tell us in the message field on the application. You will also receive an Osprey monitoring guide.
