Legacy Gifts
Greenbelt’s Development staff can personally assist you in exploring options
that allow you to provide a lasting legacy. A brief description of the more commonly
used arrangements are outlined below.
To learn more, or to join the recognition circles
referenced, please contact Greenbelt at

The Charitable IRA Rollover
If you are at least 70½ years of age, you can contribute to Greenbelt directly from your Individual Retirement Fund (IRA) and save on taxes. This giving opportunity is scheduled to expire on December 31, 2011.
Charitable Bequest
A Charitable Bequest through your will or other estate planning is tremendously flexible. Your “gift of a lifetime” can be as large or small as you wish, funded by almost any asset, and changed at any time. One of the easiest ways to establish a Charitable Bequest is through the beneficiary designation form provided by your retirement plan.

Life Income Gifts
Life Income gifts, such as a Charitable Gift Annuity or a Charitable Remainder Trust, make it possible to make a very meaningful gift to Greenbelt, and receive income for the rest of your life.
If you are downsizing from a highly appreciated home or property, a Charitable Remainder Trust can be a very tax-wise approach to making a meaningful gift to conservation, while ensuring future income.
Endowment
A gift to Greenbelt’s Endowment ensures that your support of our land conservation work will continue in perpetuity. In recognition of Greenbelt’s 50th Anniversary Year, you may now create a Named Endowment Fund in honor of yourself, your family or a loved one.
Gifts of Real Estate
If you are downsizing from a primary residence or a vacation home, camp or cottage, you may be able to make a gift to support Greenbelt’s conservation work, while realizing significant tax savings. In some cases, you may even continue to live in and use or rent out the property for the rest of your lifetime.
If you own farmland, woodlands, fields or saltmarsh, you may be able to permanently conserve it through a gift of land to Greenbelt, or through a conservation restriction. Greenbelt’s Land Conservation staff will be happy to describe land conservation options.
The Peirce Bequest Circle and Greenbelt Legacy Society
Notifying Greenbelt of your Charitable Bequest admits you to the John W. Peirce Bequest Circle. Establishment of most other types of planned gifts admits you to the Greenbelt Legacy Society.
Greenbelt strongly recommends that you consult your financial or tax advisor and attorney or estate planner when establishing or revising your estate plans.
