This ride will bring you along some of the most technical trails of the North Shore and along some of the oldest colonial roads in the country. Enjoy riding over classic Cape Ann granite and through pitch pine and scrub oak forests which are rare in New England. Catch ocean views from the top of Eagle Rock.
Directions to Tompson Street Reservation
The parking area and main trailhead are located at Jacob Cemetery, on Fernald Street in West Gloucester. There is parking for 3-4 cars.
The Tompson Reservation is located on Fernald Street in West Gloucester, off of Route 133. From Rte. 128 N, take exit 14. Turn left at the end of the ramp onto Route 133. After about 1/2 mile, turn right onto Fernald Street.
From Ipswich Center:
Drive west on Topsfield Road and turn left onto Winthrop Street. Proceed as above.
Explore the trails at the wild and rugged backwoods of the Tompson Street Reservation. These trails are narrow, twisty and almost always rocky. Ride here with caution, you never know what might come around the next corner! Enjoy 360 degree views from the top of Eagle Rock and Sunset Mountain.
