Young Farm
Gloucester, Massachusetts
Total Acres: 12
Year Conserved: 1984
Property Description
Young Farm is a 12-acre property that was donated to Greenbelt in 1984 by the Young family. Historically the property had been used as a dairy farm and as the new owners, Greenbelt began right away to work with the residents of Lanesville on a vision for the site which would retain the agricultural heritage. One suggestion was an organic community garden, and in 1995 this became a reality for a handful of Lanesville residents. Soon the garden was expanded and dozens of plots were being actively gardened primarily by Lanesville and Rockport residents. The garden continues to thrive and produces a bountiful harvest every year.
