WALK SCHEDULE

Greenbelt walks are held the last Sunday of every month. Walks begin at 1:00 p.m., are conducted at a moderate pace, and last approximately two hours unless otherwise noted. Sensible clothing and footwear, as well as insect repellent in the warmer months, are encouraged. For more information, please call

Wild Edibles Walk with Russ Cohen

New England Biolabs, Ipswich
Russ Cohen will once again lead this "wildly" popular event. Russ will share some of his extensive knowledge on where to find and how to prepare some of the many edible wild plants found in our region.

Birding Walk, Julia Bird, Ipswich
led by Jim Berry

Join birding expert Jim Berry on a leisurely walk through this lovely property. Field/forest edge and riparian habitat should lend itself to an abundance of wildlife observations, from Eastern Bluebirds to evidence of otters at river's edge.

Directions: From the intersection of Route 1A and Waldingfield Road, drive down Waldingfield Road approximately 0.3 mile until you come to a railway bridge. Just beyond the railway bridge, turn right into a small turnoff and park.

Lane Property Walk, Essex
led by Ed Becker and Dave Rimmer

Greenbelt's Executive Director Ed Backer and Stewardship Director Dave Rimmer will lead us on an exploration of this new conservation restriction property, with its' lovely window onto the Great Marsh.

Directions: From Essex Center, drive west on Route 133 for about one mile; turn right immediately after Friendship Antiques onto Lane Road, and head down the gravel driveway. Park as directed.

Walk Through History, Cox Reservation, Essex
led by Ed Becker
Greenbelt's Executive Director Ed Becker will describe some of the rich natural and human history on this exploration of the Cox Reservation. The walk will culminate with a tour of the "green" headquarters.

Explore Wetmore Reservation, Rockport

led by Eric Hutchins
Local land conservation advocate and Greenbelt Property Monitor Eric Hutchins will lead us through the fields and trails of Greenbelt's Wetmore Reservation. He will explain conservation priorities for the area and also describe some of the important ecological features found here.

Where Beavers Reign, Middleton

Join nature enthusiast Pike Messenger in exploring the Pond Meadow Pond area, where beavers have returned after a nearly four-centuries hiatus, creating a landscape that bears little resemblance to what was there just a decade ago.
