WALK SCHEDULE

Greenbelt walks are held the last Sunday of every month. Walks begin at 1:00 p.m., are conducted at a moderate pace, and last approximately two hours unless otherwise noted. Sensible clothing and footwear, as well as insect repellent in the warmer months, are encouraged. For more information, please call

Full Moon Walk/Snowshoe
Bald Hill Boxford

led by Kate Walton
Greenbelt staff member Kate Walton will lead us on a nighttime walk through the Boxford section of Bald Hill Reservation. If the weather cooperates, a nearly full moon will make this a spectacular experience. Dress warmly. No dogs, please. Directions: From East Boxford Center: travel one block north on Georgetown Road, and turn left onto Middleton Road. At the next intersection, just past the school, continue straight, then proceed about 0.5 mile to a parking area on the right side of the road.

Hot Chocolate Walk
Sawyers Island, Rowley

led by Dave Rimmer and Kate Walton
Greenbelt staff members Dave Rimmer and Kate Walton will lead us on a walking tour of the quiet dirt road that borders this beautiful property, followed by a warm outdoor fire on Sawyer's Island, and topped off with a mug of delicious hot chocolate. (Bring your own mug to conserve paper waste.

Directions: From the traffic light in Rowley Center, drive north on Route 1A for about two miles. Turn right onto a dirt road marked Stackyard Road. When the road forks, look for the Greenbelt sigh marking the parking pullout on Stackyard Road immediately on the right.
 
Saturday, March 27, 1 - 3 p.m.
Walk at Lynn Woods, Lynn
led by Dan Small and Tracie Hines

Lynn Woods Ranger Dan Small and Greenbelt staff member Tracie Hines will guide us to some of the best locations in the 2,200-acre municipal forest park. We'll start with a walk along jackson Path to Dungeon rock where Dan will share some pirate lore. We'll then calk to the Stone Tower, which should be open after decades of renovation, offering a great view from the highest point in Lynn. As we continue along several unnamed paths, Dan will share some of his extensive knowledge of the human and natural history of the area. This rugged trail is suitable for families and individuals who are capable of a rigorous two-hour hike.

Directions: From Route 1, take the Walnut Street/Lynn exit. Turn left at the third light onto Penny Brook Road. The road ends at the Penny Brook parking lot, where we will meet.

Common Pasture Walk
West Meadows, Newbury/Newburyport
led by Mary Harbaugh and Dave Rimmer
Newburyport Open Space Committee Chairperson Mary Harbaugh and Greenbelt staff member Dave Rimmer will guide us on a walking tour of this beautiful and historic section of the Common Pasture, a 1,500-acre area that includes some of the region's best agricultural and ecological landscape. Along the way, we will spend time at Greenbelt's recently installed wildlife viewing platform to scan the Web Meadows for spring migrants like waterfowl and shorebirds.
Directions: Meet at the viewing platform at Wet Meadows on Scotland Road in Newbury about 0.5 mile east of the Route 95/Scotland Road intersection, and opposite #102 Scotland Road.
